Ford Advances in Hands-Free Driver Assist Technology
As part of its push into more advanced driver-assist technology, Ford has developed Active Drive Assist, which will be available in the 2021 Ford F-150 and 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. This new technology uses advanced computing of camera and radar data to provide real-time hands-free driving in a variety of different environments.
The new Active Drive Assist system will come standard on some trim levels, including the F-150 Limited and Mustang Mach-E CA Route 1, Premium and First Edition models. It will also be available as an option for other select trim levels, and Ford expects more than 100,000 vehicles to come equipped with the technology during its first year of availability.
“As breakthroughs in new technology allow us to help reduce the stress of long highway drives, it’s important to make sure these capabilities can be enjoyed by the largest spread of people possible,” said Hau Thai-Tang of Ford Motor Company. “Active Drive Assist can help improve the driving experience while ensuring people remain aware and fully in control, all for a price unmatched by our competitors – a commitment to affordable innovations that has driven us since Henry Ford put the world on wheels.”
Over-the-Air updates for Active Drive Assist will be quick and completely wireless, and will help enhance the quality and capability of the system. As more vehicles soon become equipped with Active Drive Assist, the technology will only get better, and Ford will add more mapped areas, giving drivers more chances to use the hands-free driving system.
